How To Scar a Child for Life

A word to the wise...my kids hated this movie. It was super scary for my 9 and 5 year old. Somehow I was naively thinking that Disney meant kid friendly (evidently I forgot Disney did "Pirates of the Caribbean"). I am usually good about screening things my kids see, and we probably, no definitely, should have walked out.

I would recommend it for adults, though. The story is a classic and the movie is cool with the 3D effects, just not for kiddos. Consider yourself warned...ours have had nightmares since (well, not so much a nightmare as a I-can't-fall-asleep-because-I-keep-thinking-about-the-spooky-ghosts-mare).

Scared the kids? It scared a 34 year old a little bit. I was a little freaked out by Jacob Marley. The movie is very true to the book. It even uses the old English language from Dicken's time. Good flick for adults...a little much for the kiddies.

Thanks for the heads up, I was going to suggest that we take our whole family and go and see it over Thanksgiving.

Thanks for the warning! We went to the Christmas Carol play last year because it was advertised as a family event. Gave ABby nightmares for months- the JAcob Marley in that scared her.

Just the other day I heard a radio movie critic say it might scare the kids... We decided to wait for the Frog Princess :)
You know we only cough up family movie money once a year around this tight joint.

Wow, thanks for the warning. We wanted to take the kids this weekend so I guess not. I did look a little intense on the previews but I totally thought it would be kid friendly. I guess not, thanks!

I literally laughed out loud at the title of your post...it's true! Our 11 year-old was cowering on her dad's shoulder at various parts in the movie. (I, however, kept falling asleep. Story of my life.)

I agree with Jeff that this adaptation is very true to the book which Dickens describes as a "ghost story," not so much a Christmas story. But I knew that lots of moms with little kids would see that it was a Disney animated movie and think it was for young children.

Hope your kiddies have recovered! :)
