Is it that bad?

So, Jeff has a really nice singing voice. So nice, in fact, the ward choir director "negotiated" terms with me two weeks ago so he can join the choir again. See, because of Jeff's church calling, he gets up on Sunday morning, showers and dresses, eats and drives himself to church, just as I am getting up. However, on my Sunday mornings I am showering myself and at least two other children, dressing myself and three others, feeding myself and three others, and racing out the door with three in tow. But, I listen to the wise words of my mother, who loves to say, "Where much is given, much is required." and so I try not to complain about my Sunday mornings. But, do you see how Sunday mornings are a little off balance?

So, if Jeff then wants to sing in the choir, he gets to stay after Church, sing, and then drive himself home, feed himself lunch and change his clothes. What do I get to do if Jeff practices with the choir on Sundays? I get to drive all three friends back home by myself, again feed all three, re-dress all three out of their church clothes, and then fend for my needs as time (and Addie) will allow. See how Sunday afternoons would be a little off balance?

In hopes of attempting a "day of rest", I decided when I was pregnant that choir would be no more. That's until our choir director approached me two weeks ago?

"Can Jeff sing in the choir?" she asks. And then, I launch into the big speech about what a stress Sundays are when he does, yadda, yadda, yadda (see above).

"If he can read music, how about he stay for choir just on the Sunday before a performance?" Well, one Sunday, once in a while sounds okay to me. So, all should be secure in knowing Jeff is once again in the ward choir.

What about me? Why is there no negotiating on my behalf? I assume it's because I got my singing voice from my father. While he has many admirable qualities, I think it safe to say he's never been invited to choir, either.

How do I know I'm no Celine Dion? Addie Cate has taken it upon herself to let me know. Here is her reaction EVERY time I sing:

I love Addie Cate's reaction. Todd and don't get asked to sing. There needs to be someone who can listen and enjoy the choir- that's us.

Oh how funny! She has an adorable crying face:)
I can't sing either... but at least I can admit it... I tease Jake about his singing voice... but even after all these years he still thinks I just have bad ears! I might have to have him sing for Addie Cate.

you think it's bad now? just wait till he's a bishop. ;) Or a high councilman...that's worse. gone from 6:30 until 4 most Sundays. it's hard.

That sounds like my sunday! Although I get up, get ready, eat, then I wake up my 3 children, get them ready, feed them, then run out the door for my meetings. Chris only has to be on time, so far he's 0 for 3!

Oh Kelli, your video was hilarious!! I replayed it several times and cracked up each one!! I so get where you're coming from on a Sunday - why is there no-one to negotiate for us wives? Jonathon is YM President and has Sunday morning 08.00am meetings three times a month. As we live a half hour drive away, and have only one car, guess who has been going with him?! I dress Adelaide under a pew at Church! Nice!

Don't feel badly. Marcus gets recruited to the choir all the time and they've never taken a second look at me. And PS before the video started you can see Addie from the side and I must say she has a nice round noggin. Impressive.

Can I have that baby? Oh, and as the ward choir director, can I have Jeff too? Thanks.

ps. Kelli, maybe she just doesn't like primary songs?! Maybe if you sang her a different genre?!

I thought it sounded great! Oh my gosh, that video is so funny! Don't worry, I inherited my dad's singing voice too! See, you're calling her Addie Cate... it's perfect!

Oh her face is too cute. I love it. And I have to say, based on your performance that you don't have a bad voice at all! She is adorable. Where are you standing with the name?

That is so cute! Cate is such a doll! I hear you on the Sunday mornings. I haven't attempted going with all 4 kids yet, but I am not looking forward to it.

That is so dang funny! YOu could make some big bucks off that one on Funniest Home Video's. Addie Cate is getting so big, I really want to see her before she turns 5!

Kelli, that is so funny. I have to say for doing everything by yourself on sunday, you still make it there before I do and I only have one and my husband is home, so I think you do a great job and you make it looks so easy.

I have watched that probably 30 times and I laugh just as hard each time.

Hey! I found you! I was checking out Ally's blog when I noticed a comment from you, so here we are! I'll send you an invite to our blog a little later. Anyway, I LOVED this post. We have had a similar experience in our ward, except that it is the other way around...the choir director recruited me and when Taylor joined (just to be with me) she encouraged me to give him private voice lessons...seriously. LOVED the video footage of little Addie, that is truly priceless. Oh, send me an email and I'll add you.
